The FBI launches Automated Fingerprinting Identification System (AFIS) to electronically match linked fingerprint cards with those of known criminals. The FBI introduced an integrated AFIS (the IAFIS) in 1999. IBT was the first private sector company to collect and submit fingerprints to the FBI IAFIS.
